Choose a black cab - by using Central Taxis you can rest assured that your driver is fully qualified and vetted.
The men and women of Central Taxis are the 'driving' force behind our success. As a co-operative company, our members know that our customers are the first consideration in everything we do. Established in 1968 on the Edinburgh Castle esplanade, 33 like-minded cabbies came together to form a radio company that offered a better level of service to the people of Edinburgh. That aim remains the same 45 years later and our communal spirit has made us Edinburgh's biggest and best taxi company. All 1300 plus drivers within our company are City of Edinburgh Council licensed taxi drivers.
Prior to obtaining their taxi licence each driver is required to pass a topographical test (The Knowledge), undergo thorough police checks and complete modules in:
- First Aid Assistance
- Customer Care
- Handling Conflict and Stress
- Wheelchair Access and Disability Awareness
- Licensing Conditions & Road Safety Issues
In addition to this, each driver wishing to join Central Taxis is vetted by a company selection board and must obtain Enhanced Disclosure Scotland with Childcare Certification/PVG Scheme Certification prior to admission.
Our company is owned and operated by its members and this simple fact means that we are invested in ensuring our customers always get nothing less than the best standard of customer service. As well as the customer service module passed during City Council taxi driver training, Central Taxis ensure that all drivers are subject to a customer service training programme, as part of driver induction. This ensures that our drivers are equipped to deal with every conceivable situation and treat all passengers in an appropriate, respectful and sensitive manner.
